Black Weekend Fuzz-Buster Sale

11/28/2013 10:37 pm

Now that you have eaten and drank (a pretty safe assumption), it is only natural that your attention turns to buying things, right? Sure! Why not? Well, Sofawolf is here to help with a weekend of savings to soothe the savage soul. The sale will run Friday Nov. 29 through Monday, Dec. 2. (Times are midnight Friday morning through midnight Monday night, Eastern US time.)

Because nothing says "Christmas" like porn:

  • A whopping 40% off Hot Dish Volume 1 — We know that lots of you have not yet taken a chance on this new publication of ours, which is like Heat only longer and with not so many pictures. The stories run the gamut from somber to lighthearted and the entire volume has some great illustrations by Keovi, with a period and theme-appropriate cover by Kamui. (Normally $17.95 now only $10.75)
  • A slightly-less-whopping 20% off all issues of Heat from #1 – #10. Chock-full of short stories, comics, and poems of a less-than-puritanical nature for your vicarious enjoyment. (Issues #2 - #10 normally $14.95, now only $11.95. The short introductory Issue #1 normally $8.00, now only $6.40)

In the upgrade category:

  • Is your softcover copy of Nordguard: Across Thin Ice showing its age? Well, we have a deal for you! Copies of the Hardcover Edition of Nordguard: Across Thin Ice are 50% off. Revel in the durability of hardcover, plus the added value of the inside printed endpaper maps of the world of the Nordguard. (Normally $39.95, now only $19.95)

For those eager for the new:

  • The hot-off-the-presses Digger Complete Omnibus Editions are 15% off (both softcover and hardcover). If you are not yet a fan of the Hugo and Mythopoeic Award winning graphic novel Digger, this is the perfect time to start. If you ARE a fan then this is a perfect time to gather gifts for family and friends! The new Omnibus Edition collects the entire story, some awesome extras, all wrapped up in beautifully bound editions. (Hardcover normally $69.95, now $59.45. Softcover normally $39.95, now $33.95.)

Again: these specials run from Midnight tonight until Midnight Monday. So get cracking! And stay tuned for specials throughout the month of December, including the opportunity to pre-order signed copies of Kyell Gold's "Red Devil" — the sequel to his wildly popular novel "Green Fairy".

Digger, shipping and MFF Updates

11/7/2013 9:34 pm

We're happy to announce the (almost) arrival of the Digger Omnibus Edition! This is a project that has been over a year in the planning and has taken up the majority of our time since February of this year. It collects all six volumes of the print edition (all twelve chapters of the web comic) and comprises the complete story. In addition, it has all the extras from the original print volumes, plus a forward by Phil Foglio, a color art supplement, extensive artist's commentary, and a new illustrated epilogue.

The Omnibus is available in two formats: softcover and a spiffy clothbound and foil-stamped (with dust jacket) hardcover edition. Both will be available for purchase online on Friday, November 15th.

Further details on our website here: swp.im/p/dig-omb (Softcover) and swp.im/p/dig-hc (Hardcover).

We will be making Digger available to bookstores through major publishing distributors, but unfortunately the books will not be available through these avenues in time for this coming holiday season. Any bookstores interested in having the Digger Omnibus on their shelves sooner are welcome to contact us, and we'll be happy to work with them individually. If you are a fan who would like to see Digger at your favorite local bookstores, please feel free to print out this flyer to share with them and to encourage them to get in touch with us: www.sofawolf.com/media/news/diggerflyer.pdf.

Second, we've enabled some new shipping options for our online catalog. We added USPS Standard Parcel service and FedEx Ground for domestic and Canada addresses, and USPS International First Class for the rest of the world. It will provide options for some folks that may be less expensive than USPS Priority Mail, but more importantly will provide you more choices in how you get your books delivered. Depending on the weight of the package and the destination not all options will be available, but it will give you as much choice as possible.

Lastly, due to our inability to secure a table for MidWest FurFest this year, you will not be able to find us in the dealer's room. Instead, we are being represented at the convention by the good folks at Fur-Planet, who will have a selection of our recent and top selling titles (including the Digger Omnibus) and even our signature Booth Beagle.

Even though we didn't get booth space this year, we had hoped to attend the convention anyway to enjoy it as regular attendees and to run some panels. However, duties related to the fulfillment of the Digger Omnibus Kickstarter will keep us from doing so. We hope that everyone going has a wonderful time and we hope we get to see you all next year.

Submissions Updates

10/25/2013 11:10 pm

After our first two months using Submittable for managing submissions, our experience has been pretty good. As expected, simpler categories of submissions are better suited for the tool, while projects with more complex reviewing requirements, such as Heat, still require moving information to a spreadsheet to rank and assess submissions. But, overall, Submittable has been a great improvement on our previous email-based system!

Project Updates:

Heat story submissions for volume #11 are now closed. We finished our review of story submissions this week, and all submitters should now have been notified of the status of their stories. We had a good batch of submissions this year, and we're looking forward to starting the editing process.

Heat poetry and comic submissions remain open for the time being.

New Fables story submissions for the 6th issue will close October 31st. New Fables poetry submissions will remain open. We expect story submissions to resume when the staff begin planning for the seventh issue.

Other categories that remain open include:

Announcing the Release of God of Clay by Ryan Campbell

Sofawolf Press is proud to announce the forthcoming release of God of Clay, a novel by Ryan Campbell. The book will be released simultaneously at Rainfurrest and online on Friday, September 27.

God of Clay is a story about humans and gods in a mythic, Africa-like setting wholly constructed and richly imagined by Campbell. The gods are uneasy as old rivalries flare anew and threaten to stir up sins of the past. Meanwhile, humans have been largely left to fend for themselves, until the increasing strife between the gods pushes them into territories they had not occupied in recent memory. But the old gods do remember, and some of them do not take well to the humans’ return. This book centers on the sullen and wrathful forest god Kwaee, his son Doto, and two brothers from the band of humans who have been pushed by drought on the savanna to the edge of the his forest.

This novel is the first in a three part series that brings the main characters through pain, loss, madness, hope, redemption, and love to the cusp of conflict with one of the old gods: Ogya, the insatiable god of fire.

For more information about the book, including previews of the illustrations, check out its product page: swp.im/p/goc.

Attendees at Rainfurrest can stop by the Sofawolf Press booth #20 in the dealers den starting Friday, September 27 to pick up a copy of the book (and anything else we have for sale!). The dealers den officially starts on Thursday, but we will not be there until Friday. That evening we’ll celebrate the book launch at a party in the St. Helens room from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. (If you want to attend the self-publishing panel scheduled for 4:00 to 5:00 PM, feel free to stop by for the last half of our party!) We’ll then move to Elliott B, home of the writing track, for a reading and Q&A by Ryan Campbell from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.

The book will also go on sale on our website the same day that the dealers den opens: September 26.

This is Campbell’s first novel published through Sofawolf Press. His stories and poems have appeared frequently in New Fables, in 2012, 2010, 2008 and 2007. His first novel, Smiley and the Hero, was published in 2011 by Fur Planet.
