Once again I found myself lost in the gripping tale of Volle’s life as a spy in “Pendant of Fortune”. He once again brings in a realistic culture. Avoiding an idealistic culture that many authors lean towards, he shows the flaws and troubles that any culture has. Going one step further he also shows the flaws that an anthropomorphic culture would have with interspecies gatherings and relations, amongst other things.
Not only was the imagery and culture fully believable but also very intricate; Getting down to details of the life style and how one would think that you would really live in that day in age, and the anthropomorphic life in general. The way he adds in the details makes it that much easier to get lost in the story.
Kyell Gold has continued to do an expert job of keeping me on the edge of my seat. Through out the book I find him playing with my emotions and keeping just one step ahead of me. Giving just enough hints to be able to make a guess, usually the wrong one. Just as soon as you’d think you have it figured out he places another twist. I still find it truly amazing how he keeps coming up with his works and can’t wait for the rest of the line of books to come out.
With out a doubt in my mind an excellent book. I highly recommend it to everyone, as I’m sure you won’t be able to put it down. I give it five stars over and over again.
